Brief summary of a busy weekend
Started the clean-out of the bedroom closet Saturday mid-day (this is the one all the historic costumes live in, plus the various luggage-like items). Got everything removed (with the clothing strewn across the bed) and the physical premises cleaned. Also removed some nails a previous inhabitant had installed as extra object-hangers -- it's a wonder I never snagged anything beautiful and expensive on them. I've sorted out the luggage-objects that I've decided I don't need to own (large green garment bag, cheap bought-too-much-in-Europe duffel bag, computer bag with long-broken zipper why-do-I-still-have-this?). Assembled the new shoe rack, added all the costume shoes, and failed to find a good place for it to live. Cataloged all the costume garments as I returned those I'm keeping to the closet. Made a small heap of garments to be gotten rid of. Need to find a better storage location for the large hard-sided suitcase (since it's too large to manoever into the overhead shelf in the closet -- which would the the logical location). Need to figure out what the overhead closet shelf will be most efficiently used to store. Need to figure out where to put the costume shoe rack (not the overhead closet shelf ... hmm, or maybe ... nah, won't fit).
At a point when I still had most of my costume wardrobe strewn across the bed,
scotica called with an invitation to sushi. One should never decline an invitation to sushi. And since we were already planning to go the spoon-making workshop at
ppfuf's in Menlo Park on Sunday, I just packed an overnight bag. This also led to a spur-of-the-moment brunch date with
klwilliams Sunday morning.
And then I made spoons. This is all in support of the planned "Perfectly Period Feast (tm)" to be held at next Spring Collegium. Since one of the ideas is to have historically appropriate and consistent equipment (as well as food), and as one can't expect all the diners to have the necessary gear themselves, certain items are being the subject of advance work parties. So I got to pour molten metal, hammer endlessly at cold metal, run grinders and polishers and whatnot. A great deal of fun and a very productive session. The work-party finished with further practice in the appropriate 15th c. methods of carving roast fowl, followed by appropriate disposal of the results.
On the Blind Date Project front, I've issued an invitation for Friday's ballet performance, offered first-refusal rights to the next event (Tallis Scholars) to a second party, confirmed a coffee date with a third party, and have two or three other contacts that seem likely to go somewhere. Wow. Amusingly, I've also gotten a response from someone with a Big B e-mail address. (The Craig's List posting has a masked "reply to" address and didn't include my name, naturally, so she had no idea that we were co-workers when she answered.) It isn't someone that I've ever interacted with at work, although quite likely we've bumped into each other at some point.
I've decided that I'm going to capitulate to the need to put some journal posts on a locked filter, simply for reasons of common politeness. So if you would be interested in being on my "Blind Date Reviews" filter, drop me a note. I won't be posting detailed discussions of the results publicly because ... well, how would you feel if you ran across a public posting of someone reviewing a date with you?

As for the date filter, we don't know each other very well, but I'm happy to read about your adventures.

By the way, I tried out both the Laurelled Pork and the Pumpkin Soup recipies for 31 Oct, and they came out very well, especially as I would never call myself a cook :-). I ended up doing the pork in my crockpot on high for about 3 hours (because it doesn't exactly simmer, and better safe than sorry with pork).

I'm interested in your approach, and also impressed at the use of the spreadsheet to keep track of who is who.
