Next Steps

 I suppose the next step in being serious about following people on Dreamwidth is identifying who's doing the DW > LJ thing and pruning my LJ reading list to avoid duplication. I've been meaning to prune the LJ list for some time anyway.  It doesn't really affect reading--I almost never post anything locked--though it does mean I have to manually approve LJ comments from people I'm not following. I rather like the way DW has separated the functions of "allow this person rights regarding my account" and "I want to read everything this person writes."

Oh that's a good idea. I think I will do the same, as wading through duplicate posts is unnecessary. I don't think I will continue cross-posting much longer, myself.

I've been using DW as a backup site for several years. Now that I've finished moving my posts and comments over here, I'm posting and reading over here. I feel as if I ought to delete my LJ, but I don't want to do that until I move my userpics/icons over here (which will require a Paid account) and figure out where to put the photos in my LJ Scrapbooks (aargh).

Only thing I use LJ for is reading the few people who aren't on DW, and comments on the ones who haven't turned them off. If you crosspost, you can disable comments on the crossposts and just point people at the DW original, where they can comment using their LJ login if they want to.

I am planning to post on DW with mirroring to LJ, and not otherwise to LJ. I'll still be reading on LJ because some people are only there. When the dust settles, I'll go through my DW list and drop everybody else who's doing the "DW mirrored to LJ" thing -- i.e. the people whose posts I'm seeing twice. But I'm not doing it right away because it's taking folks a little while to get settled here, get reading and access lists set up with the DW accounts rather than the LJ OpenID ones, and that sort of thing.
