A Moderna Woman

Cut tag, because not everyone wants to read about other people's vaccine experiences.
Yesterday was my day of “volunteering at the vaccine site” that my employer is hosting. (The actual vaccination materials and personnel are supplied by Safeway Pharmacy, but my employer provides the space, security, and logistical personnel...including me yesterday.) After a long, footsore day of directing traffic (it was mostly drive-through customers, with a few on foot and some bicyclists), I gained my hoped-for reward and have now joined Team Moderna.
It was a bit suspenseful on that end, though. I’d heard they were doing Moderna, but then when I logged in to work Friday morning there was an email that had gone out Thursday evening saying there were J&J appointments available for all employees with no demographic restrictions. (The folks working on-site had already had access.) I was hoping for one of the RNA-based vaccines (just for the coolness factor), but shrugged and went to the appointment link, and at 7am all the J&J appointments had been snapped up.
So then I showed up for my volunteer stint and it turned out that all the Moderna appointments that day were 2nd dose, which I figured meant that the chances of leftovers were low. But as it turned out, two of the people with 2nd dose appointments had gotten the dates wrong and were too early, so they were turned away. So I got one of those doses.
This morning I contacted the pharmacy to set up my 2nd appointment. Normally they would have scheduled it automatically when administering 1st doses, but being a "leftover" meant I had to do it individually. But they have a commitment to provide me with one. So no more playing website roulette and by late May I should be officially protected.
This morning I have slight warmth and very slight soreness at the vac site. NBD, but sometimes effects take longer. I record them only because some people *are* interested, or for demographic purposes. Vaccines always have aftereffects like soreness or aches. It's part of the normal process. NBD. I have a slight headache but that's because I was standing out in the sun all day. Well, not all day. I did have a sunshade provided. But the pink patch in my decolletage suggests I didn't use the shade as much as I should have.
I don't feel much different, psychologically. But maybe that's also because I'm spending the weekend doing day-job stuff and trying to think up a podcast topic for next weekend's show.
